I have just come back from my training camp from Fuerteventura. That was my first time in Fuerte. In the beginning I was very bored with the landscape; have you ever seen sand and rocks? If yes, then you have seen the nature of Fuerteventura.
It is pretty windy island, but the wind is always from the same direction, so you won’t get any suprices because of that. We found some very, very nice roads to ride the traffic on those roads were so quite that we started wondering why the road has been made for.Turism in Fuerte has almost gone. There are some turist villages where you can find enough Germans, but more or
less they will be pretty old
people with such a strong tan that they must have been there for 2 months at least. My investigation tip is; buy from Fuerte now, the prces of the houses can't go any lower.
There are also quite many triathlets, staying in Las Playitas because there is a hotel with Olympic swimming pool and its
location is almost in the middle of the island. Nice hotel if you are going to spend your holiday on a bike or in a pool. And at the same hotel there was staying also a Spanish cycling team. We took a little ride with them..
And also a funny thing in Fuerte is that there is no flat; you are going up or downhill all the time. I like climbing, I like to
suffer. With my Garmin it is fun to see the grades of the climbs and still trying to keep up the speed. I never prepare my rides so carefully that I would know before how long is the uphill going to be, so sometimes keeping up the speed is not that good idea. I’m always riding from the corner to corner. If I’m riding with bigger group I make sure that
everybody knows that on the top we always stop and pick up the group together again. It’s boring for those who have have a stronger day to climb up slowly and it’s even more boring for those who don’t have the strong day to wonder if they are left or lost.
When we arrive back to Finland it was -10 grades of Celcius, difference to Fuerte was 30 degrees. Suddenly I started to miss Fuerteventura; the sand, the rocks even the wind..
I'm going to stay in Finland for one month more and one week of that I'll be in London, so I can't complain too much. I just try to make good memoryprint how difficult it is to live with this snow and cold, so that I would enjoy my living without the snow and cold. In Fuerteventura one Danish friend was asking me how come I don't look or behave like Finnish, maybe that is the reason why I just need to get abroad for longer periods every no and then.. With all respect to my homeland I can see something are better in other countries.. Maybe this president election will make a difference. ;)
